Migration is a science fiction work, expounding the idea of what would happen if the human race were enticed to leave the planet Earth and migrate to another paradise like planet. The whole human race gets caught up with the idea and everything is geared to the construction of seven huge space ships, used to transport mankind through space to their destiny as they leave all their history behind and nature to its own devices.

It is only a few years into the future. A devastating plague has swept the earth, and has killed about half the people. But that's not all that is happening. There have been a series of very strong earthquakes and a volcano which has killed many more. And the ozone layer has collapsed, and the earth is getting hotter. It is becoming very difficult to raise food, be it livestock or grains. The earth doesn't look like it will be habitable for very much longer.As all this is going on a race of space aliens contacts earth. They are apparently aware of the problems and they have a planet just like earth. They offer to help what's left of humanity migrate to that planet. They provide plans to build seven enormous spaceships which can carry those left on earth to their new home. Having no real choice, humankind across the world band together and build the ships. They leave one at a time, carrying their human cargo. But why are the aliens offering to save humans? Do they have good intentions, or do they want people for some other purpose?
The book has a good clean plot and is well written. However, there are a few things I would have liked to see expanded. First, the people and aliens have been communicating. But when the humans get to the new planet the two never meet. Second, there is only one brief mention of the provisioning of the ships. They expect that the trip will take five years, but there is really no mention of food and water. How do you feed the 700,000,000 people on each of the ships? Third, it is revealed that they take no babies on the trips, but there is never any indication of what happens to them. I suspect they were all killed, but that is not mentioned. That being said the book is an enjoyable read. It's on the short end of being a novel so it is also a short read. Recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella-length exploration of the ultimate Doomsday scenario a world ravaged by pollution, erosion of the ozone layer, crop failure and pestilence. The greater part of earth's population has succumbed, when mysterious signals from the nearest bright star, Alpha Centauri, invite the remainder to migrate to an earth-like planet in that solar system.
But is this altruism on the part of an alien, very technologically superior intelligence, or is there a hidden agenda at work? I found it a gripping and fascinating read to discover the outcome for the earthly settlers.
Obviously, given the subject matter, the author is painting on a vast canvas (for example, the size of the spacecraft needed for the migration). He solves many of the logical (and logistical) problems associated with mass space travel - not to mention the question of the time needed to travel distances measured in light years - very neatly, keeping the narrative safely on the right side of the line you always get in sci-fi between reasonable plausibility and absurdity.
And at the very end there's a really clever plot twist that's the ultimate irony. Sci-fi lovers will certainly lap up this very imaginative, rather cautionary tale, I'm very confident.
I recommend it highly.
A wonderful book, by a wonderful author, I look forward to reading more by this author in the future. If you like a though provoking read that keeps you guessing, then this one is well worth a read. )
Migrations main theme is about how aweful humans are for earth. Second theme is they get what's coming to them for not being good to mother earth... cant really say anything else without spoiling the plot line. Its decently written the author has skills I just disagree with his mentality. Written skill 3+\plot 1
I liked it...I did. It's just a few things that nag at me.
The world is going to hell in a hand-basket; plague, earthquakes, fires, volcanoes, tsunamis, a deteriorating ozone. And suddenly there is a message from the great beyond offering help. Didn't their mothers warn them not to take candy or rides from strangers??
No room for food, no children allowed or anyone that is ill.
This is a thought provoking read full of 'What if...'
